Peasedown St John Primary School has celebrated the official opening of its new classrooms and facilities.

Chair of the Council, Councillor Lisa O’Brien, performed a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Councillors, the Bath & North East Somerset Project Team, the Architects, Contractors, School Governors and members of the School Community, followed by a tour of the new facilities.

Part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Trust, Peasedown St John Primary is a popularvillage school.

Growing demand for school places in the area, due to local housing development and population growth, has meant that the school needed to be expanded to enable local children to access their local primary school.

A new, four classroom block with a small hall, group rooms and toilet facilities, an extension and re-modelling of the existing kitchen and staff facilities, and a new outside multi-use games area will enable the school to ultimately accommodate up to 630 children.

Staff and children will move into the new Council funded £2.5m classroom block at the start of the autumn term.

The project was funded by B&NES Council and managed by Project

Delivery in association with the Schools Capital & Organisation Team within the Council’s People and Communities Directorate.

The building was designed by BBA Architects of Bath and the main contractor was H Mealing and Sons of Bath. Work started on site in March 2020.

Damian Knollys, Headteacher of Peasedown St John Primary School said: “This new building is such an asset for our school and will benefit Peasedown children for generations to come.

“Our thanks to the Chair of the Council for opening it.

“We are very grateful to everyone who worked on the building and

especially to the local authority for undertaking the project and for their investment in our community.”
