Peasedown St John Primary School says it is “disappointed and frustrated” by a recent Ofsted inspection which saw the school receive an ‘Inadequate’ rating.

Peasedown St John Primary School Headteacher, Damian Knollys, told The Journal: “We are very disappointed and frustrated with the outcome of our recent inspection.

“We do not consider it a true and accurate reflection of our school, and all the good things we do for our children, many of which are mentioned in the report. There is evidence of good attainment across the school; our safeguarding and behaviour are strong, and children are very happy to come to Peasedown St John Primary School.

“We have been inundated with messages of support from our parents and the wider community, for which we are hugely grateful.

“We have been working on our key priorities for some time and can already show progress in these areas. We will continue to work tirelessly to provide our children with the best education we can give them and to raise standards where we need to, whilst maintaining our excellent ethos.

“By sending their children to our school, our parents and carers place their trust in Peasedown St John Primary School and we are absolutely determined to repay that trust by proving what a great school it is.

“We are confident that this judgement on our school will be rapidly reversed.”

Local Councillors, Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan, also released a statement in support of the school. They said: “Peasedown St John Primary School is at the heart of our community. The children are provided with a rich and thorough curriculum, and enjoy a fun and interactive learning environment.

“We are disappointed with the decision of Ofsted to grade the school with this rating. Headteacher, Damian Knollys and his staff work exceptionally hard to ensure the ethos of the school is centred around each child’s individual learning and achievements.

“Our faith in the school’s ability to enrich the lives of local children has meant that lobbying the Council for funding each year, for the school, has always been a priority for us.

“We met with the Headteacher before the announcement was made to provide our support to him, his staff and Chair of Governors, Linda Day. We will be working with the school over the next year to support them in any way we can.”
