On June 10th, Year Two pupils from Longvernal Primary School enjoyed a very exciting visit from a local ‘pirate’ to launch their humanities work this term.
The children dressed up in pirate costumes and were all given pirate names by Captain, Rocky Cliff, to really get into character.
After learning the history of pirates – including uncovering any myths about them, they had great fun walking the plank and hunting for treasure in a morning of roleplay in which the hall was transformed into the deck of a pirate ship, complete with menacing nearby sharks!
Pupils from Years 3 and 4 recently visited the Egg Theatre in Bath to watch ‘Emil and the Detectives’, based on the novel by Erich Kastner. The children had studied the book in class before the performance, and they enjoyed the interactive performance which required audience participation.
They also found it interesting to compare how the same story is told using differing media.
