Journal readers may remember last year, that Welton Primary School Headteacher, John Snell, spoke out about the national funding crisis hitting schools, and with a shrinking budget, schools will need to think creatively about how to raise funds for vital equipment. Welton Primary PTFA is doing just that; organising a fundraising Colour Run next month.

The school has decided to put on an event with a difference and is inviting the whole community along, hoping to raise £1,000 for fifteen laptops for pupils to use at school. The equipment will cost around £4,500 in total.

Usually seen at big events in Bath, Bristol and at venues like the Bath and West Showground, Welton Primary, in Midsomer Norton, will be hosting its very own ‘Colour Run’ on Saturday, 22nd June from 12 noon – 5 p.m. A course will be set out around the school grounds, with different paint points on the way around. It’s a bright and fun race, and the colours come out of clothing easily enough, so organisers hope it will be a fun day for everyone.

Jill Scarborough, Welton PTFA Chair, said: “We came up with the idea as you can take part in Colour Runs in Bath – so we thought, why not put one on locally? It might even become an annual event if it is popular, and will help raise vital funds for the school.”

There is a fee per runner, which includes a medal and fun sunglasses, with free entry for spectators. There will also be a bar, barbecue and ice-cream, glitter tattoos, bouncy castle and crafts on the day.

The event has been sponsored by Andrews, who have donated £350, Rudy’s Barbershop in Midsomer Norton, Sign Efex on Westfield Industrial Estate, who are making the start and finish banners, and The Hunter’s Rest, who are sponsoring the bar and barbecue.

The event is open to everyone, whether you are taking part for fun, are a keen runner, or would just like to have a go – you do not need to belong to the school, so grab your ticket now and help raise some funds.
