Pupils from St Julian’s School in Wellow have taken part in a forensic science investigation.

During a visit to Downside School last Thursday, pupils in Years 5 and 6 were alerted by staff that the infamous ‘Downside Trophy’ had been stolen!

Through digital forensics (looking at encrypted codes and Caesar cipher) and physical evidence (fingerprints and analysing different animal and human hairs), the children successfully found out ‘Who Dunnit’ and were overjoyed to be rewarded with some goodie bags from the school.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “All the children were excellent role models and had so much fun. We are delighted to have maintained our link with Downside School throughout the pandemic and look forward to additional visits to their grounds throughout 2022.

“The partnership between both schools has been very positive for both sides!”

St Julian’s School’s Science curriculum aims to give all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them to think scientifically.

“As one of the core subjects taught in primary schools,” added Ruth, “we give the teaching and learning of Science the prominence it requires. The children are exposed to a wide variety of topics which fall under the three main disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.”
