This spring, Midsomer Norton Community Trust and the Midsomer Norton Cultural Consortium are inviting Somer Valley residents to create artwork which will be displayed on the High Street as part of Midsomer Music & Arts Festival.
The theme of the trail is ‘My High Street’ – celebrating the wonderful shops, trades, business owners and buildings in our town. It will take place Friday, 19th May to Friday, 9th June, across dozens of High Street venues. Works will also be displayed in the Town Park as part of Midsomer Music Festival on 3rd June.
Artwork is to be created using paper carrier bags, and must explore one or more of the following themes: High Street buildings, High Street architecture, High Street purchases, High Street people, High Street trades, High Street history, Future High Streets, Fantasy High Streets, Your favourite High Street shop.
You can use collage, painting, printing, recycled and found materials, or any other suitable media to decorate your bag. Throughout April and May they will be holding free Saturday morning workshops where you’ll be able to learn tips and techniques for making your own artwork. Visit: www.yourmidsomernorton.co.uk for information.
Artworks should be delivered by Monday, 15th May to Unit 14, 14 South Road, BA3 2EZ. If you have ideas for larger-scale installations and alternative forms, if you would like some extra materials, if you would like to host a display, or if you have any other ideas or questions, please contact Beth Whalley and Martyn Plant on: [email protected].
The trail is being led by Midsomer Norton Cultural Consortium. Midsomer Norton Music Festival is on 3rd June in Midsomer Norton Town Park, Gullock Tyning. It is free to attend and open to everyone.
