A day packed with activities marked the 50th anniversary of the Conygre Hall, Timsbury, last weekend. All village organisations were asked to take part and everyone in the village was invited to attend.
The result was a day that included music from the children of St Mary’s School, the Mendip Male Voice Choir and the Golden Oldies, a Fun Dog Show and an opportunity for ‘taster’ sessions at badminton, short mat bowls, tennis, snooker, painting, skittles and football. Ice cream, burgers, pizza, cakes and tea were consumed in abundance.
Chairman of the trustees, Martin Kendal, was delighted with the day: “This was a real celebration of the contribution the Hall has made to village activities.
“All the groups, organisations and residents who use it came together to enjoy the facilities provided” he said.
“Since it was opened in 1973 the Conygre Hall has been at the heart of village life.
“It was good to mark the anniversary and I am very grateful to all those who worked hard, both organisers and volunteers, and to all those who came along on the day make it such a success”.
Village Day organiser Mandy Stonier was pleased to thank a wide range of companies and organisations that contributed to the event with sponsorship and prizes.
“Dragonfly Leisure, Frenzy Signs, Canine Craze, TJ Electrical and Fosseway Press all supported the Day” she said “and the Co-op, Health & More, Our Plaice and many village club, societies and businesses contributed prizes to a successful raffle”.
