A FIVE-YEAR project in Frome exploring how climate action can improve people's health, reduce costs and strengthen communities has published all of its learning online for anyone to use for free.

Green and Healthy Frome, a partnership between Edventure Frome, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council, ran on the premise that healthier people and a healthier planet go hand in hand.

The project turned that idea into practical action across healthcare, housing, transport, waste reduction, community engagement and behaviour change.

An independent evaluation, carried out by The Conscious Project, found that Green and Healthy Frome generated at least £1.1 million in financial savings for residents, the NHS and local systems, more than double the original target.

The evaluation also found the project prevented at least 770.8 tonnes of CO2e emissions.

Now, as the project comes to a close, rather than filing away five years of experience, Green and Healthy Frome has distilled its learning into eight standalone learning insights each sharing practical lessons intended for community organisations, healthcare providers, local authorities, funders and anyone interested in connecting climate action with health and wellbeing.

Edventure Frome has also launched a companion resource ‘Resources for Rural Changemakers’ for those starting out on rural community climate action

Co-Executive Director of Edventure Frome, Esther Maughan McLachlan, said: “We don't want this to be the end of a project. We want it to be the beginning of a movement.

“Communities everywhere are facing similar challenges around health, climate, and cost of living.

“By sharing everything we've learned, we hope others can build on our experience and create positive change in their own places.”
