On Friday, 13th December, staff and students at Somervale School and students from the Midsomer Norton Sixth Form embraced the charitable Christmas spirit to raise money for Save the Children. The charity launched a nationwide campaign called 'Christmas Jumper Day' last Friday, which saw millions of Christmas jumpers being sold. Businesses and schools across the country joined together for this especially festive day to support this very worthy cause.
The charity provides amazing lifesaving help to children, as well as fighting for their individual rights and works in a staggering 120 countries, currently helping with the much-needed relief efforts after the catastrophic Philippines Typhoon, as well as being involved with many other lifesaving causes.
Anyone visiting Somervale School on 'Christmas Jumper Day' would have been treated to a visual spectacle of colour, with staff and students sporting a vast array of festively designed knitwear. Each individual who wore a Christmas Jumper donated £1 to the charity. The school raised over £200!
Gary Goold, a member of staff at the school and who had enlisted Somervale in the nationwide event, said: "When I heard about 'Christmas Jumper Day', I knew it would be a massive hit. Not only is it good fun, but the money raised would be used to help a charity which does a fantastic job on a daily basis and on a global scale.
"It was great to see so many students and members of staff taking part in the event, as well as to see so many varieties of festive jumpers – I never knew there were so many! The event epitomised the true spirit of Christmas and brought a smile to everyone's face, which was the icing on the Christmas cake!"
The school wishes to extend its gratitude to all the students who took part and to thank their parents, who had to endure the Christmas shopping crowds, to buy them their jumpers!
