There was road chaos in Farrington Gurney when a large barn fire broke out on Monday afternoon this week.
Fire crews answering a call from a member of the public attended the scene on Bristol Road, Farrington Gurney at 4.26 p.m. on Monday, where a barn fire had broken out.
The barn, which is roughly 10x20 metres, held around 100 tonnes of hay and was still burning into Tuesday morning, as The Journal went to press. It is expected to burn for an extended period due to the combustive nature of the hay, which was being stored within the barn.
Seven vehicles and two support vehicles attended, with fire engines coming from Avon Fire and Rescue Service stations at Paulton, Radstock, Yatton, Bath and Brislington, as well as being joined by colleagues from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
As of Tuesday morning, the fire was contained, with unmanned water jets and two vehicles remaining. Temporary traffic lights were in use along Bristol Road to siphon off more power to the jets. Residents were advised to stay indoors with windows and doors shut as a precaution. At the moment, there is no indication as to the cause of the fire.
