A team of colleagues from Freshlook Engineering, based in Radstock, have managed to donate just under £2,000 to Dorothy House after taking on a 5km fun run along the Two Tunnels.
One of their colleagues had been raising funds for 33-year-old Benjamin ‘Benj’ Millard, who very sadly passed away in April from bowel cancer, having only been diagnosed last September. Benjamin, his family and friends created ‘The Bowel Movement’, which has so far raised over £64,000. It was originally set up to pay for additional treatment to extend Benjamin’s life, however, he was too unwell to be able to receive it. Instead, £11,500 was donated to Dorothy House, and £5,000 has been donated to the Ducks and Drakes Cancer charity, who support young people with cancer. £15,000 has been earmarked to take the charity forward to spread awareness and fundraise further, with the rest, as Benjamin wished, to help his wife and stepdaughter have a more secure future.
A spokesperson from Freshlook Engineering said: “We all surprised ourselves when everyone crossed the finish line, but most importantly, with the total amount raised. We wanted to support our colleague who was fundraising and show the whole workforce that we are there for them through every testing situation.
“There were some definite glimmers of competitiveness amongst the runners in our group on the day!”
