Peasedown St John’s community centre has received a funding boost thanks to one of the village’s local Councillors.
The Hive Community Centre, located on Bath Road, runs open-access youth work sessions three afternoons per week for children and young people – often in need of a ‘safe space’ to hang out at after school.
Councillor Gavin Heathcote (Independent, Peasedown) has allocated £500 from his Ward Councillor’s Empowerment Fund this year to contribute towards food and snacks for the young people who attend the sessions.
Gavin said: “The team at The Hive are doing a fantastic job in providing regular youth work sessions for the young people in the village. I know that the youngsters who attend The Hive on a regular basis really appreciate having somewhere warm and safe to go – especially in the colder months.”
“I’ve allocated £500 from my fund this year to ensure The Hive has an adequate supply of food and snacks for each youth work session.”
Gavin, who is a long standing community activist and advocate for young people, added: “It’s community facilities like The Hive that really do make a difference. Long may it continue to be a valuable resource for our village.”
