Just when residents thought it was going to go away, Councillors on B&NES’ Development Management Committee are due to meet next Wednesday, 14th March at the Guildhall, Bath, to discuss the Curo Greenlands Road application in Peasedown St John for up to 89 new homes.

The land has been dormant for some time, whilst the social housing landlord and Council officers look at the finer details for the plans. The site is controversial, a steep, sloping green field which was allowed planning permission by appeal and then sold to Curo by the previous developer.

The application is for 72 houses and 17 flats, with access from Greenlands Road. Since the appeal, the site has been included within the Housing Development boundary for the village through the Placemaking Plan process and is important in meeting the Council’s target for delivering housing.

In the report which will be before Councillors next Wednesday, the B&NES officer, who has recommended approval, states: ‘Officers have considered all the concerns and objections raised by the local community and where necessary, amendments or further information has been sought.

‘Nevertheless, there are many areas of objection that have not been overcome, either because they relate to principle issues already agreed, or approved at outline stage, or are not considered significant enough to justify refusal of the proposal.’

The meeting is open to the public and begins at 2 p.m. Also up for discussion is an application by Bath Cricket Club to turn its existing car park into 136-bed student accommodation, with parking underneath for 108 spaces and the demolition and replacement of its indoor training facility. The B&NES officer for this case is recommending refusal.
