Congratulations to Mrs Edith Pyecroft (known as Emma), who celebrated her 100th Birthday on 12th April.

Emma was born in Sheffield and in her early working years she was a ballet dancer and belonged to a touring company.

When the war broke out, she volunteered for the auxiliary ambulance service in Sheffield and was working thoughout the Sheffield Blitz – a harrowing experience for an eighteen-year-old. She married in 1942 and was married for over seventy years until the death of her husband, George, ten years ago.

Her later working life was for the PDSA animal charity and she came to the West Country to find a site for the building of an Animal Hospital, which is in Brislington and remained as the Social Secretary and fundraiser for the charity in the Bath and Bristol area until her retirement. She has lived in Timsbury area for the last fifty years.
