Two-year-old Harmonie-Rose Allen, who lost all of her limbs and the tip of her nose, due to meningitis at just eleven months old, has made international headlines, thanks to her new friend, a quadruple amputee doll.
The region rallied around Harmonie-Rose and her family, who are from Bath, after they set up a fundraising site to help pay for Harmonie-Rose’s prosthetics and treatments, as well as raise awareness of how dangerous meningitis can be. The Hope 4 Harmonie campaign has raised thousands of pounds since being set up in 2014 and received the backing of several MPs.
Now though, Harmonie-Rose is gaining national and international headlines for her new friend, an American Girl brand doll which has been adapted to look just like her. The doll, which was shipped from the American Girl store in New York, has been modified especially for Harmonie by A Step Ahead Prosthetics, gaining her mentions on ABC and Fox News in America, as well as appearances on Good Morning Britain, ITV News and mentions in The Sun, The Mirror and The Huffington Post among others.
On the Hope 4 Harmonie Facebook page, her parents shared how excited Harmonie was to receive the doll, reporting that she said: “Mummy, she’s just like me!”
Thanks to the reaction to Harmonie-Rose’s new friend, companies in the UK are announcing plans to stock similar dolls, to help other children like Harmonie. To keep up-to-date with the Hope 4 Harmonie campiagn, ‘like’ the page at: www.facebook.com/HopeForHarmonie?ref=ts&fref=ts
