Chilcompton is to offer its residents an opportunity to change their lives in just twenty minutes.
Chilcompton Parish Council is arranging for a health team to visit the village hall, who will provide a free NHS health check for people aged between forty and 74.
Villagers who sign up for the event will be seen by a healthcare professional and have their blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and lifestyle checked in less than half-an-hour.
Parish Councillor, Martin Stanford, said: "You may feel good, but this will be a great opportunity to find out just how healthy you are. The visiting teams can cope with fourteen patients per team and it is anticipated there will be two teams."
As people get older, there is a higher risk of developing something dangerous, like high blood pressure, heart disease or diabetes. The NHS health check aims to spot early signs, so people are more likely to enjoy life for longer.
The health check includes taking blood pressure, a simple blood test to gauge cholesterol and sugar levels, measurements and questions about family history and lifestyle. The results are sent to the relevant GP.
Residents will then be invited for another check in a further five years, so that their health can be monitored long term.
Cllr Stanford said: "It's a no-brainer. Potentially, people can change their lives in minutes."
It is thought that the health check will take place in September, but residents are being asked to watchthe village website: http://www.chilcompton.org">www.chilcompton.org for the precise date, as they will have to book in.
