A free breastfeeding support group is held in Ubley every week and a second group is to be launched in Radstock Children’s Centre this month.

The groups, run by Kim Crawfurd, are called Valley Feeding Friends.

Kim said: “We are made of a team of volunteers peer supporters with a wealth of experience.

“These services really help support families as there is very little provision for breastfeeding support around BANES.

“We get no funding from the council or health services but have been lucky enough to receive a generous donation from the Norton Radstock Round Table, which has enabled us to open the second group.

“We are currently in the process of training several women to become peer supporters and would really love to train more so we can start a network across the county.

“I am an ex-health visitor and IBCLC (nourish lactation consultancy) who oversees the groups for any complex issues. I started out as a peer supporter seven years ago and have developed my skills since then. I volunteer my time to run and support at the groups weekly as I believe that high quality breastfeeding support should be free and available to everyone.”
