Midsomer Norton Town Council are installing a community defibrillator into a restored phone box, as part of the new Town Park plans.
The telephone box from the Garden of Friendship, at the town’s Catholic Church, was relocated on Friday, 18th September to the Town Park. The Town Warden will fit a Community Heartbeat defibrillator which requires no power.
The installation of a defibrillator at the Town Park will ensure that park users have easy access to vital life-saving equipment that can make a crucial difference in the minutes after a suspected heart attack. It will be registered with the local ambulance trust, ensuring that anyone calling 999 can be directed to the equipment. The units prompt users, allowing even untrained people to administer help before the arrival of the emergency services. Community Heartbeat also offer a two hour community training session. ?
The red telephone box was designed by the British architect, Giles Gilbert Scott, in 1924. The architect has a special link with Midsomer Norton, as the restorer of the tithe barn and its conversion to a Catholic Church. He restored the timber roof and created new doorways and a new gothic style window in the south wall of The Church of the Holy Ghost, which was blessed as a church on 17th May 1913.
