Midsomer Norton Town Council has spoken out after concerns of legal highs being used in the town.

Parents and youth workers have raised concerns about the use of Nitrous Oxide, a so called ‘legal high’, which is often used in medical procedures and known as ’laughing gas’, after used canisters were found at various playparks in the area.

A representative from Midsomer Norton Town Council said: “The recent discoveries of canisters covered by the local media matches reports the Town Council has received from members of the public in recent months.

“Any evidence of substance abuse in the town reported by the public, the Street Marshals or the Town Warden Contractor is passed by the Town Council to relevant bodies such as Project 28 – who themselves are part of the Midsomer Norton Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP).

“The Town Council remains committed to taking action to safeguard young people in the town as part of its ongoing youth policy.

“A meeting of the Community Alcohol Partnership is due to take place in early September 2015. The Council will be seeking agreement from the CAP on coordination with the whole range of organisations involved to consider the

appropriate actions that it could take.”

Anyone who is concerned about the use of Nitrous Oxide, or other drugs or alcohol is encouraged to contact the Developing Health and Independence charity by calling: 01225 329411.
