In 2019, the beautiful Church of The Blessed Virgin Mary at Hemington was vested into the care of the national charity Churches Conservation Trust (CCT).

Since then, The Trust has undertaken extensive repairs and conservation work to ensure the future of the church for its community, future generations and visitors to this stunning part of Somerset.

The Church of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Hemington has a long history. Originally built by the Normans. It has a Norman chancel arch and a font dating from 1260. The church was heavily restored in 1859 by the renowned Victorian architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott, designer of The Albert Memorial and the iconic Midland Grand Hotel, (later renamed St. Pancras Hotel), next to St. Pancras Station in London.

On Tuesday, 23rd November, the CCT wants to hear your ideas, stories and memories to help future visitors understand why St Mary’s Church, Hemington village and its community is so important. Participants to the meeting will be asked for their thoughts and responses to questions such as: What memories do you have of this church? Why is Hemington and St Mary’s Church unique and what would you want people to know about it? We want to create a special and unique experience when visiting this historic building, a place for all to enjoy!
