Rosewell Nursing Home in High Littleton has announced that it will be closing, due to lack of staff and other issues following an inspection.

The Care Quality Commission staged an unannounced visit in March to follow up on the previous inspection in July 2015, where the home was found in need of improvement in five key areas. Though the report does not recommend

closing the Home, Managers have said that they will do so.

The report notes that whilst some improvements had been made, it still found that four out of five areas were in need of improvement and there had not been sufficient attempts to do this.

The report, released by the CQC, found that problems stemmed from the Home not having a Registered Manager for over a year, as well as there being concerns about the suitability of the premises, hygiene and the nutritional needs of the residents.

The report noted that there had been two medication errors during the inspection, that areas of the Home were unclean and that kitchen and storage spaces posed a risk of cross contamination, as well as a lack of storage facilities and bathrooms not being fully operational. There were also concerns about forms not being completed in regards to residents’ medicinal and nutritional needs, and that kitchen staff were not always aware of certain dietary needs.

The inspectors, although listing several concerns, were impressed by the quality of care received by residents and having spoken to a number of residents and their families praised the staff for their caring manner, demonstrating kindness and compassion.

It is not yet known when Rosewell will close or where residents will be rehoused. The full report can be accessed online at: http://goo.gl/KrKIz8
