Laney and Mark James have been leaving winter woollies on statues and attached to lampposts, benches, gates and fences, with some volunteers even knitting items themselves.
Each item has a tag on, which explains: ‘I am not lost. If you are cold, please take me to keep yourself warm.’
The idea came from a Canadian campaign, which has also helped raise awareness of the plight of homeless people, particularly when facing sleeping outside in freezing conditions.
Every weekend, Mark and Laney distribute food, dog food, warm clothing, medical kits and sanitary products to the city’s homeless, fundraising locally and via their Facebook page.
