At the young age of twelve, Indie Fairington, from Midsomer Norton, sadly said goodbye to her mum, Tara Chivers, when she died in January this year after a five-year-long battle with cancer.

To thank Dorothy House for the tremendous support they gave her mum with their palliative care, and ever since with emotional help for Indie and her close family, Indie is now having her long hair cut and donated to The Little Princess Trust.

Indie’s mum wasn’t keen on her having short hair, but came around to the idea when Indie suggested that she could raise some money to show their gratitude for the people who were caring for her. Due to school guidelines, she is unable to have a full head shave, but will instead be opting for a short ‘pixie’ cut.

Indie’s long locks will be sent to The Little Princess Trust, who provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.

This is going to be an emotional day for Indie, it is more than just a haircut. It is something which she now feels ready to do, and something which her mum would be proud of.

Celia, from Celia’s Place on Midsomer Norton High Street, will be cutting her hair on Saturday, 24th August. Bob and Sarah at The Crossways pub, Midsomer Norton, will be hosting the event, starting from 2 p.m., with the cut happening at 3.30 p.m. Bob will be putting on one of his legendary BBQs, with proceeds going to Dorothy House. There will also be a raffle on the day, with lots of top prizes to be won.
