Members of a local mountaineering club, for like-minded people who like to get out and explore the great outdoors, are appealing for others to come and join them on their adventures this year.
Club Secretary, Darryl Church, explains more about the group: "We are a not-for-profit club for climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers in the B&NES and West Wilts area, which was formed in 2014 by a group of outdoor enthusiasts who were finding it difficult to find weekends that everyone had free to organise trips into the mountains for climbing, hiking and camping.
"By forming the Somer and Biss Mountaineering Club, the hope was to create more opportunities to get out and active with others in the local area who have the same interests. Our founding members and current committee members all live along the River Somer (from Midsomer Norton to Bath, and the River Biss (Westbury to Bradford-on-Avon), which gave us
our name, although new members are welcome from anywhere in the local area.
"Our main activities are equally split between mountaineering, hill walking, rock climbing, local rambles and social meets. Our current members are mainly in their 30s to 40s, but membership is open to anyone over the age of eighteen with a love for the outdoors.
"During 2014, the club had numerous summer and winter trips to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, wild camping on Dartmoor and Exmoor, regular summer rock climbing meets and an international trip to the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
"Our main aim for 2015 is to try and have something happening every week by expanding our membership, this will enable us to have more events, as all our trips are run by our members for our members. We are also hoping to offer training workshops, such as outdoor first aid and navigation skills."
