A local family aiming to raise £1 million for Clic Sargent in memory of their son, Ben Crutchley, will be hosting the Mells 10k once again on Saturday, 14th October.

These events have so far raised £42,000 for the charity and Nige and Su, Ben’s parents, are hoping that this year’s event will take them over the £50,000 mark.

Overall, their fundraising stands at a huge £300,000, as part of their mission to raise a million.

Ben was just nine-years-old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and despite treatment and superb care, particularly with the help of Clic Sargent nurses, Ben very sadly passed away in February 2012. His parents and older brother are now working to ensure that as much money as possible can be raised to help support the nurses that helped their family so much.

The Mells 10k is for participants walking, running or cycling, with walkers starting at 10 a.m., runners at 11 a.m. and cyclists at 11.15 a.m., with the emphasis being on fundraising – it is not a race.

The family are hoping for 1,000 participants to join them on the day, and there will also be a Fun Run for age groups under five, 5–7, 8–11, and 12–15, which will begin after 11.15 a.m. Entry for the Fun Run is on the day, but all other entrants will need to register at: www.mells10k.com

The course is undulating and is over grass, tarmac and gravel, with spectator points at Mells Recreation Ground and Mells First School. Good luck to all of those taking part!

The family will also be running the Bath Half Marathon in March 2018.
