PLANS have been unveiled for a new, larger supermarket off Radstock Road in Midsomer Norton, replacing the existing High Street store and featuring modern facilities including solar panels and electric vehicle chargers.

Lidl is inviting residents to share their views on the proposals to ensure the new store meets the future needs of the local area.

Lidl has served residents in Midsomer Norton since 1995 and has proposed building a larger store to provide a wider range of products.

The new store would include facilities not currently available at the existing location, such as a larger car park with electric vehicle chargers.

In line with the company’s sustainability commitments, the store is also planned to have solar panels on the roof. Landscaping proposals include new tree and shrub planting across the site to enhance the overall development.

The existing Lidl store on the High Street, which is almost 30 years old, no longer meets the needs of its ever-growing customer base. The new store would help secure the discounter’s future in Midsomer Norton, and all existing colleagues would be able to relocate to the new store, with additional new jobs also being created. The store team will also benefit from a larger welfare area.

Lidl is committed to involving the local community throughout the development and is actively seeking feedback on its proposals through its consultation website midsomernorton.newsite.lidl.co.uk

Glen Stidever, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We are excited to seek feedback on our proposal to significantly enhance our award-winning offer to Midsomer Norton residents. A new Lidl food store off Radstock Road would provide our very best shopping experience which shoppers rightly expect, alongside a larger car park, and the latest specifications with solar panels on the roof and EV chargers in the car park.”

“Our ambition is to deliver a store which best meets the needs of the community here, so we hope as many as possible are able to share their views on our proposals.”

For more than three decades, Lidl has continually delivered its unbeatable combination of quality and affordability to shoppers across Great Britain. Recently, Lidl has been recognised for its level of service, initiative, and commitment to the FMCG sector being crowned Grocer of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards 2025.

Lidl has launched a consultation to gather feedback and views from the local community on its proposed new store in Midsomer Norton. As part of the consultation process, a leaflet detailing the plans is being distributed to households in the surrounding area, providing residents with information about the proposals and how they can get involved.

In addition, a dedicated website has been set up to allow people to review the plans, ask questions, and submit their comments online midsomernorton.newsite.lidl.co.uk

The company has emphasised that input from residents will help shape the development to better meet the needs of the local area.
