Supported by a team of volunteers, local couple Ron and Sheilagh Humphreys are bringing a dynamic open air theatre production to Wellow for the very first time. Cornwall’s award-winning Miracle Theatre will be performing Life’s a Dream on Wednesday, 13th July at Wellow recreation ground, an epic fable of love, war and destiny.

It’s a brand new show adapted and directed by Bill Scott BEM, with music by Tom Adams that once again justifies Miracle’s reputation for producing comical, highly entertaining and thought-provoking shows suitable for anyone and everyone. Over 37 years of touring, their outdoor productions have become a ‘must do’ summer activity!

Based on Calderon’s greatest play, La Vida Es Sueño, published 20 years after Shakespeare’s death, Life’s a Dream is regarded as the jewel in the crown of Spain’s golden age of theatre.

Miracle has applied its magic to this classic by trimming the text to the bone and fleshing it out with original music, physical performance and a joyful use of language.

“The story behind Life’s a Dream is just as relevant today as in Calderon’s time,” explained Sheilagh, “but the play is packed with action, full of drama and passion and has a generous seam of comedy. So gather your friends and family, bring a picnic and some chairs for Miracle’s performance in the open air and under the stars. Wine and snacks will be available plus a ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ stand.”

“The joy of open-air performance is that every night is different and it really is an etiquette-free zone: you can sit where you want, eat what you want, wear whatever you like” says director, Bill Scott. “Plus, each setting is transformed as night falls; the actors can never be sure what to expect and must be ready to respond to a dramatic moonrise, a sudden shower or a wild animal trying to get in on the act. For players and audience this is a genuinely unique and shared experience.”
