Ahead of their set at the upcoming Outfield Festival this Sunday (25th August), Americana-influenced Midsomer Norton group, Avalon Highway, have released their debut single, ‘Hungover in the Sun’.

The five-piece group consist of close friends who play music alongside their day jobs, ranging from builders, plumbers and carpenters to guitarist, Sam Jellyman, handily owning Guitar Bitz music shop in Bath. The group is completed by vocalist Joe Williams, drummer Louis Peard, bass player Gar Miller and keyboard plaer Lewis Martin.

The band caught the attention of Mike Batt – notable musical polymath who originally discovered Katie Melua – at one of their live shows, and he then offered to produce the band, recording several tracks including their new single.

Combining influences as diverse as Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Mumford & Sons and Counting Crows, the group retain a knowing wink and cheeky smile that still frames them as a decidedly West Country rock band.

Following a recent studio session on BBC Devon last week, Avalon Highway will be performing at Outfield Festival alongside Toploader and East 17 this Sunday. The band said: “When we were asked to be main support at this year’s Outfield Festival we were really excited, as not only does the event have so many great bands to play alongside, it’s also at Midsomer Norton Cricket Club, which is a place we love! If you haven’t got a ticket yet, get one – it’s going to be awesome and we promise to put on a cracking show for you!”

Avalon Highway will then be headlining a show at the Dublin Castle in Camden on Thursday, 29th August – a venue that has previously hosted bands such as Madness, Blur, Amy Winehouse and Arctic Monkeys.
