Local composer, Margaret Woodley’s carol, ‘O Little One Sweet’ will be a highlight of Midsomer Choral Society’s Christmas concert, ‘Mostly Messiah’, at St John’s Church on Tuesday, 19th December at 7.30 p.m.
Margaret, who has written numerous choral works, lives in Midsomer Norton, and her beautiful carol is accompanied by harp, played by Emily Mullins.
Choruses and solos from Handel’s ‘Messiah’, including the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’, accompanied by string orchestra and trumpet, will be interspersed with seasonal readings, and choir and congregational carols.
Other music includes movements from Benjamin Britten’s ‘Ceremony of Carols’, accompanied by harp, the well-known instrumental piece, ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ by Arvo Pärt, for strings, piano and bells, which will convey the Nativity scene, and Berlioz’ ‘Shepherd’s Farewell (Thou Must Leave Thy Lowly Dwelling)’.
