Wanting to give back to the charity that supported him through major health issues, local drummer for The Sneakers sixties rock ’n’ roll band, Paul Brimble, has recently presented the British Heart Foundation with a cheque for over £600.

Back in 2011, on New Year’s Eve, Paul suffered a stroke, three ablations of his heart and three cardio versions, (stopping the heart and restarting using defibrillator paddles); eventually having to have a pacemaker fitted.

As a thank you to the British Heart Foundation for the treatment that he received, he wanted to give something back. Celebrating his seventieth birthday, Paul decided to have a collection and a raffle for the charity, with prizes donated by his family and some very good friends – the total on the night being £602.49.

This amount was added to further when Paul was cashing the notes and coins in the bank; when a lady in the queue asked if the money was for charity. With that, she took £5 out of her purse and said: “I’ve had a good win on the bingo” and put it into the collection bucket, bringing the final total to £607.49!

Paul presented the cheque to Jane Turner, Fundraising Manager for the British Heart Foundation Wiltshire and Bath, and the local Manager at the British Heart Foundation Charity Shop, Midsomer Norton.
