Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day returned last Friday, and in a year where we have needed to raise a smile more than ever before, local schools were having fun to help others, both in the UK and worldwide. Comic Relief has so far raised over £52 million for this year’s appeal, supporting organisations to deliver lasting change for people living incredibly tough lives.
Westfield Primary School raised over £500 last week – all of the
children paid £1 to dress up as a hero – either real life or super! Staff pledged to do something funny for money, with an interactive poll where children could vote from home at 50p a vote.
The vote saw Mr Mills, the Headteacher, be gunged by the House
Captains in Year 6 and four reception children, the Deputy Headteacher covered in beans, staff dunked in the pond, challenged to run around the field with cold custard in their wellies, or to eat a lemon on playground duty!
Some of the staff also had to bounce on a spacehopper in a sumo suite, wear an inflatable pumpkin, have two buckets of freezing water thrown over them and completed an I’m a Celebrity style bush tucker challenge!
All of the events were streamed live across the school and carried out in their year group bubbles.
Red Nose Day aims to harness the power of funny to raise money for those facing homelessness, hunger, domestic abuse, mental health stigma, groups affected by the pandemic and much more. The
charity is also focussing its attention on carrying out huge amounts of work to fund projects that will help tackle racial inequalities.
Since its formation, Comic Relief has supported 105.6 million people across the world, 14.3 million of whom are in the UK.

St John’s School:
Pupils and staff at St. John’s Primary School in Midsomer Norton have been supporting Comic Relief again this year by
dressing up as Superheroes!
The main focus of the day was to have fun and during the day plenty of activities had been arranged, including joke-telling, comedy sketches, quizzes and talent shows resulting in plenty of laughter throughout the school. The School Council organised a competition to design a Superhero Red Nose with plenty of wonderful designs!
