The launch of Radstock Co-operative’s twentieth store at Haywood Village, Weston-super-Mare on 5th October marked an important milestone in the Society’s 150-year history.

The Society set in motion an ambitious growth strategy, and over a ten-year period, has more than doubled its turnover and virtually trebled the retail estate following the launch of this new purpose-built store.

The store is in a prime location at the centre of the growing Haywood Village residential estate and next to the local primary school. Pupils from Haywood Academy were invited to attend the official ‘cutting-of the-ribbon’ ceremony, and performed their duties impeccably, declaring the store ‘open for business’. The Radstock Co-op made a cheque presentation of £250 to the School to mark the start of its relationship with the local community.

Don Morris, Chief Executive, said: “This is a landmark occasion as we open our twentieth store in this, our 150th anniversary year. We have grown rapidly in recent years, with five new stores opening in just under twenty months.

“This is our second store in Weston-super-Mare, expanding our trading area and strengthening the Co-op in North Somerset.

“We are making our presence known as a customer-focused, ethical retailer with strong links to local communities.”
