Have you ever fancied naming a character in a computer game? Local computer game developer, Harry Pembro, from Oakhill, is offering members of the public the chance to do this and more.
Working under the name of Fourth Pixel, Harry has already produced three games which have been well-received online. His latest game, ‘Loot Pox’, which is currently in development, promises to take gamers to a “whole new dimension.”
‘Loot Pox’ is an open-world, base-building strategy game where players have to build a village, mine for resources, trade resources with other online players, and generally keep the ungrateful peasants of their village in order!
The game is almost complete, but Harry requires new and upgraded software in order to finish the programming. Harry is determined to raise the funds on his own, but at age thirteen, is too young to get a job. The enterprising teenager – a pupil at the Blue School, Wells – has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise the necessary funds, enabling him to launch ‘Loot Pox’ as planned, on digital gaming distribution platform, Steam.
Grateful for any contributions, large or small – Harry is keen to reward his supporters. Anybody pledging £5 towards this project will automatically receive a code to download the completed game for free after its launch. Other rewards for pledges include the ability to name a peasant, name one of the villages and see their name in the credits of the game. There are also lots of original artwork pieces on offer too.
On his Kickstarter page, Harry said: “I am a solo developer [who is] relatively new to the gaming business. So far, I have created a couple of free projects on itch.io. Combined, they both have over 600 downloads, but now I am aiming to get my newest project on Steam.
“This will be my fourth project. The challenge I face is with incorporating User Interface (UI); thereby creating a high-quality game. With the aid of your help, I plan on launching the game on Steam some time in April, looking finished and highly-polished.”
Harry has until Monday, 19th February to reach his target, otherwise he will not receive a penny and all pledges will be returned to the benefactors.
