The first of the local summer agricultural shows took place in early May at Wraxall, the North Somerset Show.

In the Guernsey Classes, Miss C Huins was placed second in the heifer in Calf Class and Laura Sales, with Avalon Fernando Linda, won the Heifer in Milk Class owned by Neil, Kim and Laura Sales of Midsomer Norton; she went on to win the Guernsey Breed Championship and Reserve Supreme Dairy Champion.

Heather Limond, from Writhlington, won the Young Handler Championship with Reserve Champion going to Justina Langley, from Farmborough. Heather also won the Supreme Calf Championship with Clevian Fitz Presse, owned by her father, Andrew Limond of Writhlington.

In the Butcher’s Lamb Class, Roger Lyons of West Harptree won second prize. In the Texel Classes Henry Groves, of West Harptree, won the Ewe Lamb Class.

Reserve Champion winner in the Young Handler Classes was Justina Langley, from Farmborough. A J Langley & Sons won the British Holstein Maiden Heifer Class, with Valebrook Upright Briony, which won the Junior Championship.

Jess Wyatt, from Stowey, riding Arkansas Going Places was second in the Senior Newcomers.

In the Retraining of Racehorses, Mrs Lockyer of Farmborough won the Amateur Ridden Show series qualifier, with Mrs E. Allen, of Chew Magna, placed third.

In the Heavy Horse, Mr & Mrs Colin Horler from Timsbury won the Yearling and Two-year-old Class with Radford Hot Cross.

In the Senior Horses, Mrs T Sparkes, from West Harptree, was placed second in the pre-Senior in-Hand with Union 11.

In the Shetland Pony classes, Mrs Ashley, from Litton, was placed second standard with Shetland youngstock, Kalipso Bay Breeze.
