As we round up 2023 we look back on the last year of competitions and it’s been the most successful one in JWBBA history.

Academy instructor Jamie Woodland, himself multiple National and European champion said of the students: “ The work rate at the academy is second to none. We teach the importance of discipline, dedication and determination, combined with a great work ethic and there is nothing that you can’t achieve. We can all become winners on the mats and in life.”

Students have competed in multiple disciplines proving the adaptability and skill, combined with professional instruction and hard work the results have been out of this world. Some of the most notable events have been...

Korean martial arts invitational... students have won no less than 150 + top three places in the last 3 outings combined with winning overall Grand Champions three times. These went to Kat Taylor, Charis Derrick and Sonny Daniels.

The team were split in September whilst as the Korean tournament was running a team of five were selected to represent GB in Athens, Greece at the Wuma World Championships. Wes Brook, Adele Carver, Ruby Sage, Kieran James and Kitty Howson took on the rest of the world and once again proved victorious not only by returning home with new World Champions with eight golds, four silvers and two bronzes but by being the notable team to show the highest level of skill and discipline. This is the academy way.

Shortly after Greece, Charis Derrick and Mark Dibley had been chosen to represent GB at the ISKA’s in Munich, Germany.

Once again with dominant performances they returned home with 2 world titles and 3 Silvers. A much deserved reward for 2 of the academy’s hardest working, most dedicated members.

November saw the first outing of our Thai Boxing team. Callum, Josh, Corey, Kane, Jordan, Fin and Darren travelled over the bridge to Wales to compete amongst some very tough and mostly more experienced opponents. This was the first fight for most of the team and although the competition was fierce, everyone dug deep and proved that they have what it takes to succeed within the sport. Instructor Jamie who is qualified under legendary Muay Thai and martial arts Grandmaster Sken said of the team “ I couldn’t have been more proud to be in the corner of every one of the guys. They fought with heart, skill and determination and will no doubt be great Champions in the future if they keep working as hard”

To finish the year the academy held an interclub with 90 of its members converging on Norton Hill Sports Centre.

The day was a huge success and over 150 trophies went out to competitors.
