Exciting proposals have been announced to create a fantastic new summer event in July 2014 by merging the Fayre Day and the Community Festival.
The new event is the result of a partnership between the Town Council and the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association and will be called 'Midsomer Norton Fayre: A community festival'. An annual event, it will take place on the second Saturday in July each year, beginning on 12th July 2014, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
"The town was granted a Royal Charter in 1248 by Henry III over 700 years ago and so, ever since 2008, when we relaunched it we've been trying to grow and develop Midsomer Norton Fayre into an event for the whole community. Teaming up with the Carnival Association is a great step forward for the town as it will enable us to pool our energies and create a much bigger and better event," said Cllr Paul Myers, Mayor of Midsomer Norton.
With the Carnival Association's experience of running events and the support of the Town Council in the form of a financial grant, there is every prospect that, with almost a year to go, the new team will be able to get on and organise a community event for the whole family at the heart of Midsomer Norton.
"Having worked for many years organising local events, it's great to be able to work in partnership with the Town Council on an exciting new local summer event," said Steve Collins, Chairman of the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association.
In the long term, the aspiration is to have the event in the new Town Park. This new space will offer exciting opportunities to develop the event in new directions.
