Midsomer Norton’s first ever Pride event, which was held over the weekend, has been hailed a great success.

Organisers, Nik Jovcic-Sas and Grant Johnson, have said they are thrilled with how the event played out.

Nik said: “Seeing whole families taking part in the bake-off in the Town Hall and showing their solidarity with the LGBT community in the wake of the Orlando shootings was so heart-warming. In the evening, The Pits and Perverts Benefit Ball was heaving with LGBT individuals and straight allies from the moment the doors opened. I’ve had countless messages of thanks saying how much they and enjoyed the fantastic performances from Syd and Stan, Luna Noir, Montroze, Meth and Cheddar Gorgeous.

“During the festivities, I was approached by a young LGBT person from Midsomer Norton, who told me that this has given them so much hope for the future of this town. I couldn’t help but shed a tear of happiness. I want to thank everyone who came and made this possible – this year’s Midsomer Norton Pride was great, but next year it’s going to be bigger, better and have even more rhinestoned unicorn drag queens.”

Grant said: “I think this whole event has got the town talking and celebrating LGBT rights. It’s wonderful to come out in Midsomer Norton, being yourself and see so many people support you! I believe this is the start of something, so here’s to the first and hopefully many more Prides to come.”
