Back from our summer break from indoor meetings, we will be recommencing on Monday, 17th September at 7.30 p.m. in the Conygre Hall, Timsbury, when our speaker will be Jamie Kingscott-Edmunds – his topic being Badgers.

We are a friendly group who discuss observations seen by the members since the last meeting, without any compulsion to offer contributions, but which is always interesting. Our speakers give illustrated talks which, with a coffee break, normally conclude at 9.30 p.m. The Committee have an interesting and varied programme booked, promising good times to come.

Field trips continued throughout the summer – we ventured (twice) as guests of the Chew Valley Bird Ringing Group, the

second occasion including an overnight moth trap. We visited Stockhill woods and Priddy pond for Nightjars and Westhay Moors for Marsh inhabitants, including Osprey. Our outstanding expedition was to Salisbury Plain, where we had conducted tours in the Landrovers of the Great Bustard Group and saw, from their hide, the thriving families of Britain’s largest birds.

For September, we shall be re-visiting Langford lakes near Salisbury, to compare seasonal variations from our April visit. The pathways there are level, mostly paved and suitable for wheelchairs, and toilets are available. Entrance to the lakes is free, and we car share to defray costs. Why not come along on Monday, 17th to see what we are about? You will be most welcome!
