Responding to parking concerns raised by local residents, B&NES Paulton Councillors, Liz Hardman and Grant Johnson, recently organised a meeting for residents to have their say.

For those living in the vicinity of Paulton Infant and Junior Schools, it was reported that irresponsible and thoughtless parking by some parents and carers has led to an unacceptable situation for residents.

Drives, pathways and roads are being blocked and polite requests to move vehicles are being met in some cases with rudeness and abusive language. Some of the other problems created were poor mobility for elderly people, who cannot gain access to their road and homes because of thoughtless parking.

Day trips for pensioners has become limited as coaches are unable to drive up roads which are difficult to navigate because of school time parking and the need for 20 mph speed limit signage along Elm Road.

These concerns were brought by the Councillors and representatives of the residents before a meeting the following day with local Police. Also present were members of B&NES Parking Enforcement Team, Paulton Parish Council, and representatives of governors from both schools.

After a long discussion, a series of actions were put forward which will be discussed by the Police with the Headteachers of both the Infant and Junior Schools. The outcomes of this meeting will be shared with Paulton residents at a public meeting to be held over the next two to three weeks.
