Norton Hill School was buzzing with excitement on Friday, 10th July, as Year 7 and 9 pupils were visited by up-and-coming musician, Rich Cottell, who hosted a cyberbullying and online safety roadshow during a special assembly that ties in with the Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum.

As part of his UK school tour, which started in January 2015, Rich has been performing and speaking at schools, reaching in excess of 10,000 students. He has previously supported big acts such as The Wanted and Conor Maynard.

Born and raised in Torquay, Devon, he started music at a very young age and released a debut EP, 'In The Now'. Rich has since recorded the LP, 'Go Geek'. This was inspired by the same idea as the Jack Black film, School of Rock, and Rich teaching music in primary schools.

During the assembly, Rich and his accompanist delivered a unique acoustic performance of three chart-topping songs before talking to the pupils about the serious issue of online safety. Rich was able to draw on his own experiences of cyber-bullying, to deliver an empowering, thought provoking and highly relevant talk on E-Safety to the engaged pupils. He gave important advice about the use of social media to his audience.

Sian Jones, a Year 9 pupil at Norton Hill School, said: "I absolutely loved it! The music was great and he explained how to stay safe online really well."

The roadshow culminated in a fantastic opportunity for the excited pupils to get autographs and pose for selfies alongside Rich Cottell.

Sian Gunton, Head of PSHE, said: "It was really exciting for our students to meet Rich and hear such an important message about cyber safety and the dangers of online bullying. I know it is a lesson our students will remember, not just during their time at Norton Hill, but in the future, too."
