Well-known local counselling charity, Off the Record, has announced that it is moving its Midsomer Norton base into the Town Hall.
Overall, Off the Record provides a range of free, confidential and independent services for children and young people that support the development of their emotional health and well-being. The service, to be located in future at the Town Hall in Midsomer Norton, will primarily cater for people aged 18–25 on an appointment basis and will complement the service provided at Norton Hill and Somervale Schools.
"We have been considering a move for some time from the premises we've occupied behind Midsomer Norton High Street. The Town Hall not only offers a perfect range of meeting rooms linked to a reception – but also the opportunity to be part of a vibrant community hub at the heart of the town," said Ruth Sexton, Counselling and Outreach Manager for Off The Record.
For Adam Nicholas, who has been with Off The Record in Midsomer Norton for some sixteen years, the move is an important step to ensure that services are available for young people into the future. "I started with Off The Record as a volunteer in 1997 and became a counsellor in 2006.
"Over the years, I've helped hundreds of young people and the service is needed more than ever today in these rapidly changing times when young people so often just need someone to listen to them, understand and help them to find their own way to improve their emotional health and well-being."
It is interesting to see just how many more new groups have come together under the roof of the Town Hall in recent months, creating a dynamic hub with the support and encouragement of the Midsomer Norton Community Trust.
