Chew Magna Res 1 Paulton Rovers Res 2
Paulton were on the road again, this time travelling to Pensford to face Chew Magna
Reserves in the Intermediate Cup.
The first half started brightly for Paulton, keeping hold of the ball and not allowing Chew Magna in to the game. The first efforts on goal came from Rovers through stand-in Captain, Callum Carter and Dan Haines. Paulton were forced into an early change, Paul Gray picking up yet another injury.
Paulton soon took the lead when Josh Ayres was fed the ball down the left and his resulting cross found Drew Lovelock at the back post to beat the on-coming keeper.
Rovers then doubled their lead ten minutes later, when Callum Carter saw his powerful shot fly into the back of the net.
With the second half underway, Paulton Reserves were comfortable on the ball, that was until changes and the shape of the formation brought Chew Magna back into the game. Cross after cross, Paulton’s back line had to deal with a lot of pressure, with Aaron Whittock sweeping up just in front of them.
Chew Magna then pulled a goal back, when a cross from the left hand side found an incoming attacker to slot past Rovers’ keeper, Will Smith.
More and more pressure was brought onto the defence of Paulton, who managed to deal with it time and again. With the game in injury time, Chew Magna had one last attempt to equalise, but saw the resulting free kick fly over the bar.
