The Society held its Annual Presentation Dinner at the Old Down Inn, Emborough and members gathered in anticipation of the judge’s comments and decisions.
It was a very sociable evening, with some of the highest-quality prints on display that we have seen in recent years. Chairman, Margot Witcombe, presented the monthly competitions and ‘Picture of the Year’ awards in the four usual categories.
The Millennium Cup, as judged by the public at the Annual Exhibition, was won for the second consecutive year by Margot Witcombe, this time with ‘Owl in the Cemetery’. Members compete throughout the year in monthly competitions, gathering points for places awarded and accruing totals over the twelve preceding months.
The most consistently successful in the colour section this year was Janice Cuer. She was closely followed by Suzanne Ladd and Jill Toman. Jill took the overall first place in the black and white section, with Bill Collett in second place and Jenny Short in third.
Jill Toman’s photo of cyclists ‘Rounding the Bend’ won Photo of the Year, deservedly (as judged by Sam Pitt).
The individual print results in the four sections were awarded trophies as follows:
Portrait/People: 1st, Graham Nicholls – ‘Looking Miserable’; 2nd, Jane Richardson – ‘Should it be wine or beer?’; 3rd, Jenny Short – ‘Laughter’.
Sport/Action: 1st, Jill Toman – ‘Rounding the bend’; 2nd, Bill Collett – ‘Eat My Dust’; 3rd, Jenny Short – ‘Flying High’.
Landscape/Seascape/Cityscape: 1st, Janice Cuer – ‘Cloches’; 2nd, Jill Toman – ‘Hoodoos in Bryce Canyon’; 3rd, Margot Witcombe – ‘Cutting the Lavender’.
Any Other Subject: 1st, Diana Walker – ‘Red Squirrel’; 2nd, Suzanne Ladd – ‘Lines and Circles’; 3rd, Jenny Short – ‘Bald Eagle’.
Members will be travelling to Warminster for an inter-club battle on Saturday, and looking forward to the usual hospitality afforded by the home club.
The next Thursday meeting will see the results of the February Open Print Competition. Clearly, talent and enthusiasm abounds at the NRPS – why not come and join us?
