PLENTY of exercise and exploration was taking place in Frome as another successful walking festival took place.
More than 200 people enjoyed calm and pleasantly warm weather as they attended 12 walks which took place over three days from Friday, August 8, to Sunday, August 10.
Co-ordinated by Frome Walkers are Welcome and supported by Frome Selwood Rotary, the walks included historic strolls around Frome’s blue plaques and war graves to a 13 mile walk around Frome’s ‘Walking Wheel’.
There will be another walking festival taking place in the local area later this year, as the Somer Valley Walking festival is set to take place from September 13 to 14.
Organised by Somer Valley Rediscovered project in partnership with Somer Valley Ramblers, this will see a range of activities take place from a gentle stroll through Timsbury to a hike through the Cam Valley.
Les Stather, who is a part of Frome Walkers Are Welcome, said “Virtually everybody who joined a walk learned something about the town that they did not already know or discovered new areas that they had not walked before.
“Frome is a Walkers are Welcome town and the committee would like thank Frome Town Council, Frome Selwood Rotary and all the walk leaders for all their help in organising the festival.
“Many of the Frome's green spaces and some of its industrial heritage can be enjoyed from the 5-mile inner ring. Maps of The Frome Wheel can be purchased from most bookshops in the town or at the town council offices.”
Mayor of Frome Cllr Anita Collier said: “Thank you to the Walking Festival team for another wonderful event, offering the chance to explore Frome’s history and heritage, learn about plants and trees, or just take in some beautiful scenery in and around the town. Here’s to many more.”
Frome Walking Festival will return in 2026.
