An eighties-inspired evening held at the Red Post, Peasedown St John, to help raise money to adapt a family home for a young disabled boy has contributed to raising £7,583, taking the fundraisers to just over half of their target.
The evening, which saw many locals and supporters of the cause dress up in the fashions of the day, as well as their favourite eighties idols, was in support of eight-year-old Morgan Krisciunas, featured in The Journal on 6th August. His mum, Charlotte Cox, and dad, Leon Krisciunas, had been trying to get an extension built on their home so they could have ground floor facilities for Morgan, who has recently undergone surgery. The improvements were due to have been completed at Christmas, but due to delays, the cost of the work has gone up, leaving the family with a shortfall of £15,000. The event at the Red Post, along with the family’s gofundme page, has been working towards hitting this target.
Alana Sandall, from the Red Post, who helped organise the eighties night, said: “Morgan had his casts removed on Wednesday, 26th August and as promised, he went straight from the hospital for a swim. His legs and feet are a little dry, as to be expected, but apart from shedding skin, all looks well. Morgan got his stylish splints yesterday which he will need to wear for a while, which means he will need some new footwear to accommodate the splints.
“We really hope people continue to donate and share Morgan’s story. We at the Red Post Inn are hoping to put on another event in order to help them reach their target by holding a Halloween-themed night at the end of October.”
The organisers would like to thank Vince Penny, Hobbs Marble and Granite, Ian Hobbs Electrical Services, Michael Gould Property, G&S Steeplejacks, Aqua Sulis, Mercedes Benz Bath, Docky’s Delicatessan, Pure Taste, Coco Lounge, Barber and Co., Millard’s Butchers, Valley View Garage, Grapevine Telecom, Fosseway Press, Aspect’s Decorating Service, Nicola Perry, Bath Audi, Centurion Travel, Joanna of Bath, Bristol Rovers, Archway Café, Le Petit Salon, Bristol Audi, Paul Lewis, the Red Post, Whitstones, the Prince of Wales and William and Oakley for donations and raffle prizes. There were many great prizes to be won, including a Samsung phone and an Audi TT to drive for the weekend. Best dressed prize winners were Adam Ant, known as ‘Scouse’, and Madonna, Laura Clarke.
Alana said: “The ‘Back to the 80’s’ night was very successful, raising a total of £1,500, with the help of family, friends, locals and businesses in the area. We are very thankful to those who made the event so great. It was a very enjoyable night and we raised a huge amount of money to go towards Morgan’s much-needed ground floor facilities. The atmosphere was fantastic and everybody was up dancing and enjoying themselves. We were even kept sweet by Vince Penny’s homemade candy.”
Morgan’s mum, Charlotte, said: “ A massive thank you to Alana, Simon, Meg and Mark for all the hard work you put in over the last few weeks to make the 80’s night such a success and for all the incredible raffle prizes you managed to pull together! It was a brilliant night with a great turnout and we can’t believe we raised £1,500! We really appreciate the continued support from you all for Morgan’s cause.”
