Peasedown St John’s Community Trust is looking for new Trustees to join its Management Board.

Established two years ago in the wake of the first lockdown, the Trust is an amalgamation of community projects that have joined together to form a charity. The current Trustees, a collection of business representatives, community leaders and Councillors, have years of experience in running successful businesses and voluntary initiatives.

Chairman of Trustees, Gavin Heathcote, said: “With a population of almost 7,000 residents, the village was in need of a civic body that would champion good causes and be proactive in ‘getting things done’. So, a group of us decided to step up to the mark!”

Projects currently run by the Trust are: Peasedown Community Library – in partnership with B&NES Council, the Trust runs the village’s library service. Over twenty volunteers help manage a wide range of library services each week.

Peasedown Community Orchard – in partnership with Curo, they run a community orchard, nestled in the centre of the village opposite The Hive Community Centre.

Dementia Friendly Peasedown. A team of trained Dementia Champions are raising awareness of the condition across the village and helping to create a dementia-friendly community.

Fellow Trustee and local Councillor, Karen Walker, added: “The Trust also has a strong desire to champion mental health awareness and support those who need extra help. We’ll soon be launching a new £3,000 initiative in partnership with Sovereign and B&NES – which will be available, free of charge, to service users in Peasedown.”

The Trust Board is now looking for new people to join them. Ideally, prospective candidates should already have some experience of voluntary work, and show some evidence of working as part of a community project or team.
