Local activists, professionals, public speakers and those who just want to share their ideas are being invited to take art in a new Speakers’ Corner initiative at Peasedown St John Community Library.
Starting on Wednesday, 19th February at 6 p.m., speakers are being invited along each month to talk about their field, work or background with a captive audience. All are welcome to attend.
Initiative coordinator, Nathan Hartley, said: “Everyone’s got something to say, so why not give them a dedicated space to do so?!
“Our new Speakers’ Corner will feature a speaker each month who will talk about their particular idea, passion or interest.
“At this new, one-hour slot we’ll invite a range of interesting speakers who will inspire, enthuse and encourage!”
The special guest for February’s event will be Jean Burgin, a Peasedown St John resident and dedicated volunteer at the Casualties Union for many decades.
She will be sharing the work of the charity, and giving a first-aid demonstration.
Casualties Union is a British registered charity that was founded in 1942 by Eric Claxton OBE, who later received an OBE for his services to civil defence. The services of the charity emerged after the need was identified to provide realistic training for the personnel of local authorities in the rescue, assessment and treatment of casualties in the 1940s. Last year, its members contributed 27,953 hours, providing their services as trained make-up artists and actors in casualty simulation.
