Volunteers in Peasedown St John braved the rain last Saturday for a community clean up.

For several months, parents who take their children to Eckweek Lane Play Park had raised concerns about dirt and mud on play apparatus.

Staff shortages at Bath & North East Somerset Council meant there was no one available to give the park the clean it needed – so the village’s new Community Trust stepped-in instead!

Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, said: “Eckweek Lane Play Park is popular with children and parents alike. Nestled in-between Under Knoll and Saxon Way, it has been well-used since it opened almost 20 years ago. Its layout means it is a great place to spend time with family and friends, whilst maintaining a safe social distance at the same time. I go there regularly with my daughter, who absolutely loves the place!"

The team of residents, led by Gavin and local Independent councillors Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan spent time cleaning swings, tables and slides with hot soapy water.

Karen and Sarah added: “We’re working with B&NES Council to ensure the Local Authority has adequate staffing and resources to do this in the future. With the summer holidays now officially starting and most people staying at home rather than venturing abroad, our play parks are now needed more than ever!”
