Peasedown St John is home to a new Christmas Tree this week, thanks to volunteers from the village’s Residents’ Association.
The tree, which was donated by local businesswoman, Karen Bourne, has been planted on The Green in Frederick and Albert Avenues.
As well as the festive purpose for planting the tree in the run up to Christmas, it also marks National Tree Week – which has been held during the last week of November every year since 1975, to encourage communities to do something for their local treescape.
Nathan Hartley, fundraiser for the Association, said: “We’re grateful to Karen for donating the tree so we could do something for our local community this Christmas.
“We had been looking for a Christmas Tree to plant for sometime on the Green to finish off what has already been an eventful, positive year for the village.”
The new Christmas Tree will be decorated on Saturday, 16th December at 4 p.m., following a Christmas Party in nearby St John’s Community Room. Children from the village have been invited along to design the decorations and decorate the tree. Revd Tom Benyon from St John’s Church will be attending to lead carols.
Residents’ Association Vice Chairman, Richard ‘Tex’ Clarke, added: “Our new Christmas Tree is a complete re-plant, with roots and all! Hopefully, festive carols on The Green will now become a regular feature of our December diaries each year.”
