Tobi Rumming-Pain, 17, who lives in Midsomer Norton, took on the challenge of riding 86k on his bike to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK on 30th April.

He completed the challenge in an incredible five hours and forty six minutes and has so far raised nearly £700 for the charity, just over a £100 off of his target!

Tobi, who has Austistic Spectrum Condition, wanted to commemorate the life of his much-loved granddad Pete, who died from Alzheimer’s disease in 2021, aged 86.

Tobi, who attends Wessex Lodge School in Maiden Bradley, said: “I used to go round to grandma and grandad Pete’s house every day and spend time playing. When he got the diagnosis, nothing much changed at the start, but as time went on he became less mobile and sometimes you couldn’t see the thing inside him that made him, him.

“So I made sure I went round to see him to help and spend time with him and let him know I was there.

“But he had to shield during lockdown in 2020 and I could only wave to him through the window.

“When I could see him again, the thing that made him was all but gone. I visited every day, held his hand and answered his questions over and over again. It was horrible seeing someone you love disappear day by day, right in front of your eyes.

“This is why I want to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, so that no-one will ever have to suffer from dementia again.”

His mum, Ann,a said: “I will never forget the huge bear hug he gave me after crossing the finish line, clutching my dad’s photo in his hand. He would be so very proud of him.”
